An underground rain water reservoir

Arkil is building a 4.1 km waste wastewater conduit near the town of Hvidovre.

The new conduit will collect wastewater from the existing sewage mains in the residential area along Damhus Lake, between the Holbæk Motorway and the Old Køge Road.

Climate control with tunnelling

The underground rainwater reservoir has a capacity of over 15,000 m3, and its purpose is to quickly divert water from houses in the area to prevent flooding.

The contract comprises the tunnelling of a 3.1 km conduit and the installation of 1 km pipeline in an open trench. Furthermore, 19 concrete structures will be built along the stretch, and secant piles will be driven 12 m underground.

Arkil Spezialtiefbau is responsible for the drilling work, as the company specialises in tunnelling and has drilling equipment with both open and closed fronts.

Groundwater lowering

Arkil Enviromental Technology will perform the necessary groundwater lowering work, which consists of drilling 130 holes along the segment and installing 5.3 km of 5–6 m high pipes. Beneath the Damhusledningen, a temporary "transport conduit" has been installed which hangs on posts along the streets to avoid having to dig long trenches in areas that are already densely populated and heavily trafficked.

Interdepartmental cooperation

At Arkil, we possess a wide range of competencies and employ several departments at once throughout the organisation whenever the job calls for it. Our foreign subsidiaries are also involved in some of our Danish projects, including the Damhusledningen, for which Arkil asked Arkil Spezialtiefbaus to contribute with its expertise.
