Underground cable from Bulbjerg to Tjele

The cable installation project for Energinet.dk will optimise the security of energy supply between Norway and the rest of Europe. Arkil was contracted to lay the underground cable between the Danish towns of Bulbjerg and Tjele, as well as to assist with the installation of 10 km of cable in Norway. Arkil was also in charge of securing the connection of the 140 km submarine cable on both ends, on behalf of the cable supplier, Nexans Norway AS.

Special consideration for nature and animals

The working conditions were difficult in several places along the 90 km stretch of land where the cable was installed, and special measures were required to protect marshlands and areas that were home to rare plants and animals. This meant that the cable had to be installed in pipes that were drilled into the ground. Around 250 underground holes were drilled for the entire segment, of which the longest was roughly 400 metres. Included in the contract was the installation of coupling trenches used to connect the cables.
