Roads and bridges must improve infrastructure

The primary purpose of the Sdr. Borup-Assentoft Expressway is to relieve the current main road through the south of Randers, and to improve traffic conditions along the E45 motorway as it extends towards Djursland. It is what is known as a "2+1" roadway, which allows drivers to overtake in alternating west and eastbound directions with the addition of an extra lane.

Interdepartmental cooperation

Arkil Construction and Bridge & Concrete collaborated with Arkil Asphalt to complete the expressway project, which included: a 5.2 km expressway and the reconfiguration of the existing ramp intersection from priority to signal-based right-of-way. The project also included a six-legged roundabout, an interchange in the form of a two-level forked junction, a flyover ramp and a half interchange at the existing bridge road. Furthermore, a new two-way cycle path was to be constructed, intersecting roads were to be rerouted, a 3 m baffle wall was built, and a 150 m valley bridge was constructed with four bridge lanes, a combined traffic and wildlife crossing, and two wildlife-only crossings.
