In 2011–12, Arkil built a 12 km stretch of motorway between the cities of Silkeborg and Herning for the Danish Road Directorate.
Project period
2011 - 2012
Client
The Danish Road Directorate (Vejdirektoratet)
Contract sum
134 mill. Danish kroner
The project comprised the construction of 12 km of motorway, including the appertaining access ramps, intersecting roads and rest areas.
During the project, 208,000 tonnes of asphalt were laid, 85,000 m³ of subsoil and 95,000 m³ of sand were transported, and 52,000 m³ of stable gravel was used.
The project is a good example of interdepartmental collaboration within the Arkil organisation, as several divisions were involved, including Arkil Asphalt, Arkil Construction, Arkil Road Services.
In order to handle large projects such as motorway construction, the degree of internal collaboration within the individual departments also increased, such as when Arkil Asphalt ordered asphalt from the company's three plants in Jutland (which are located in Hasselager, Skrydstrup and Skive).
In the final three months of 2011, Arkil Asphalt laid approximately 380,000 m2 of asphalt, which is an area the size of 54 football pitches.
